INTRODUCTION

COMAY is a premium handcrafted bag brand under Dan Viet Handicraft Co., Ltd. Established in January 2018, COMAY has made a distinctive mark in the market with its fashion bag lines crafted from natural materials such as water hyacinth, seagrass, rattan, and bamboo. Continuously innovating, COMAY consistently introduces fresh, unique designs that harmoniously blend contemporary trends with customer needs.

At COMAY, each handbag design is a sophisticated combination of various natural materials, inspired by nature and expressed through modern design language with high practical applicability. This blend brings elegant beauty to handcrafted products while enhancing their durability and convenience for daily use.

Each product is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans, showcasing sophistication in every detail. Every weave and stitch embodies the dedication, experience, and passion for the craft of these artisans.

Beyond creating unique designs, COMAY also contributes to generating employment and income for women in traditional craft villages, helping them improve their skills and develop new weaving techniques and designs. Every COMAY product carries a love for nature and life, aiming for sustainable development and bringing positive values to the environment.

Over the past half-decade, COMAY has brought its brand to retail customers in the United States, South Korea, and many other countries worldwide; built a collaborative network with 7 distributors across Vietnam; and partnered with leading fashion brands such as SIXDO, IHF Studio, LE THANH HOA, and La Pham, helping Vietnamese handcrafted bags appear on prestigious fashion runways in Australia, Italy, London, and Switzerland.

A DREAM BEGINS IN THE HOMELAND

Tran Doan Hung – Founder of COMAY

Born in 1993 in a Vietnamese village renowned for its traditional sedge mat weaving, Tran Doan Hung found the inspiration to build COMAY from a very serendipitous moment. During a visit to Nha Trang, he stumbled upon a handcrafted handbag woven from natural grass, made by a former colleague. Although it wasn't the first time he had seen such a product, that particular bag left a remarkably deep impression on him.

Later, on a cable car ride to an island, sitting next to two foreign tourists carrying colorful hand-painted sedge bags, Hung suddenly wondered: "My homeland also has sedge; why haven't we ever created such beautiful products?" This very question planted the seed of a dream, urging him to return to his hometown to create new value from indigenous raw materials.

Despite facing numerous financial difficulties and a lack of experience in the early days, Hung persistently sought out traditional weaving villages to learn. After months of accumulating knowledge and experience from skilled artisans, he founded COMAY — a brand deeply imprinted with the essence of his homeland.

Inspired by the rustic beauty of natural fibers and the sophistication of traditional weaving art, Hung envisioned COMAY as a brand that emphasizes meticulousness and refinement in every product. Just as natural materials are carefully selected and transformed by the hands of those who appreciate beauty, every COMAY product is created as a work of art with enduring value.

Each design is researched, developed, and perfected by Hung himself with unceasing dedication. He always aims to create high-quality, durable, elegant handbags that can accompany users for many years.

"If you stay in the village pond, the pond will dry up.

Why not go to the river or the sea to frolic?

Why do you keep trapping yourself in tangled thoughts?

Why do you keep going online and sighing with weariness?

Why do you let your youth pass by so boringly?

On the runway of everyone's life,

Some are taking off and soaring."

(Excerpt from On the Flat Road, Tony Buoi Sang, Tre Publishing House, 2018, p.299)

After years of learning the craft and exploring natural materials, I aspire to fully embody COMAY's core values through meticulous attention to detail. From the careful selection of natural fibers to the skillful hands of women in rural villages, every strand of seagrass or water hyacinth is separated, processed, and intricately woven to create elegant handbags. Each product is completed with patience and dedication, like a work of art, reflecting the love of beauty and professional pride of the artisans.

COMAY and its artisans have embarked on a long journey together to create designs that not only bear a distinctive mark but also achieve the highest quality. Our mission is not only to contribute to local development but also to inspire a change in consumer habits and perceptions of handcrafted products. In daily life, very few people choose handmade bags for work or important events. Most only encounter straw bags in the summer or during beach trips, with simple designs and often made from a single material.

Therefore, I decided to combine various natural fibers with complementary materials such as leather straps, fabric linings, and premium finishing details. This combination not only enhances the usability and durability of the product but also brings sophisticated beauty, transforming handmade bags into true fashion accessories, suitable for diverse lifestyles and occasions.

I believe that a handmade product is not merely an everyday item but also a repository of cultural values, creativity, and the dedication of the people behind it. This is precisely the spirit that COMAY consistently pursues on its development journey.
