In Vietnamese culture, Chiêm refers to the rice crop sown at the beginning of the cold season. Chiêm rice is known for its resilience, able to grow even in the harshest conditions.

“Chiêm rice peeks out at the edge of the field,

At the first clap of thunder, it springs to life.”

The central leather detail is inspired by the rice plant, serving as a tribute to the enduring vitality and timeless values of Vietnam’s rice-growing culture. It brings a traditional essence infused with elegance and modernity.

The raffia weave forms a chain of interlinked hands—a symbol of unity, compassion, and community—echoing the spirit of Vietnamese village culture that has grown and thrived around the rice plant.

  • The interior of the bag is lined with hemp canvas and features a removable snap-button attachment, making it easy to clean when needed.
  • The bottom of the bag is reinforced with protective leather feet for added durability.
  • Each bag comes in a fabric dust bag.
  • Skillfully handwoven from raffia, this bag is brought to life by artisans from COMAY in Vietnam.
PRODUCT CARE

PRODUCT CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE

Bags from COMAY are made from natural fibers such as water hyacinth, sedge grass, rattan, bamboo, and raffia. These materials are soft and delicate, so the products should be handled gently and with care during use.

Although the products have been carefully treated to prevent mold, due to the high humidity of tropical climates, proper care and storage are still necessary to maintain their durability and natural beauty over time.

Recommended:

  • Store the bag in a dry, well-ventilated place with natural light. During prolonged rainy periods or when indoor humidity is high, it is recommended to use a dehumidifier. If a dehumidifier is not available, the bag should be regularly checked, dried, and stored in a plastic bag to prevent the fibers from absorbing moisture, which may lead to mold.
  • If mold appears, gently clean the affected area using a soft brush with water and mild detergent. Rinse with clean water and dry the bag outdoors or under direct sunlight.
  • If heat drying is not possible, the bag can be air-dried in front of a fan overnight.

Not Recommended:

  • Storing the bag in dark or humid environments.
  • Keeping the bag in a fabric storage bag.
  • Soaking the fiber or leather parts in water for extended periods.
  • Rubbing the fiber or leather surfaces with excessive force, as this may cause scratches or damage.

The bag remains in its best condition when kept dry and when the natural color of the fibers is maintained.
