INTRODUCE

COMAY is a premium handcrafted bag brand under Dan Viet Handicraft Co., Ltd. Established in January 2018, COMAY has left a unique mark on the market with its fashion handbags made from natural fibers such as water hyacinth, seagrass, rattan, and bamboo. With continuous creativity, COMAY consistently introduces innovative and distinctive designs that remain in harmony with contemporary trends and customer desires.

At COMAY, every handbag design is delicately crafted by combining diverse natural materials, inspired by nature and shaped with modern design language—deeply resonating with life. This fusion brings a refined elegance to handcrafted bags while enhancing durability and convenience in daily use.

Each product is meticulously made by the hands of skilled artisans, embodying sophistication in every detail. Every stitch and weave carries the intuition and dedication of passionate craftspeople who truly cherish their work.

More than just creating unique designs, COMAY also generates jobs and income for women in traditional craft villages, helping them improve their skills and develop new weaving patterns and designs. Each COMAY product conveys love for nature and life, aiming toward sustainability and offering positive solutions for the environment.

For over half a decade, COMAY has introduced its brand to retail customers in the U.S., South Korea, and many other parts of the world; partnered with 7 distributors across Vietnam; and collaborated with top fashion brands such as SIXDO, IHF Studio, LE THANH HOA, and La Pham—bringing Vietnamese handcrafted bags to leading runways in Australia, Italy, London and Switzerland.

DREAMS BEGIN FROM OUR HOMELAND

Tran Doan Hung – Founder of COMAY

Born in 1993 in a rural village of Vietnam known for its traditional sedge mat weaving, Tran Doan Hung found the inspiration for COMAY in a serendipitous moment. One day in Nha Trang, he came across a beautifully handwoven handbag made from long grass, crafted by a former colleague. Although it wasn’t the first time he had seen such a product, that bag left an indelible impression on him.

Later, on a cable car ride to an island, sitting alongside two foreign tourists carrying colorful, hand-painted sedge bags, Hung asked himself a question that would change his path: “My hometown also has sedge—why has it never been transformed into such beautiful creations?” That question became the seed of a dream, compelling him to return home to create something new from his own birthplace.

Despite challenges in both finance and experience, Hung began seeking out traditional bag-weaving villages. Through months of learning and gaining insights from skilled artisans, he finally established COMAY—a brand rooted in his homeland.

Drawing from the essence of natural fibers and the meticulous artistry of traditional weaving, Hung envisioned COMAY as a brand built on precision and refinement. Just like how natural materials are carefully chosen and transformed by artisans who love beauty, each COMAY product is crafted to become a timeless work of art.

Every design is personally explored and developed by Hung, reflecting his relentless effort to create handbags of the highest quality—durable, elegant, and enduring with time.

“If you stay forever in the village pond, the water will one day dry up.
Why not swim out to rivers, to seas, to truly stretch yourself?
Why keep binding your mind in tangled, outdated thoughts?
Why sigh endlessly online in weary boredom?
Why let your youth drift away in dullness? On the runway of every human life,
There are those already running, gathering speed and taking off.”

(Excerpt from On the Runway, Tony Buoi Sang, Tre Publishing House, 2018, p.299)

After many years of learning the craft and exploring natural materials, I wanted to express the core purpose of COMAY through meticulous attention to every detail. From carefully selecting natural fibers to the skillful hands of rural women artisans, strands of seagrass and water hyacinth are delicately split and woven into refined handbags. Each product is patiently perfected like a piece of art, thanks to the dedication of craftsmen who cherish beauty and take pride in their creations.

COMAY and its artisans have walked a long journey together to create designs that are not only distinctive but also of the highest quality. Our mission goes beyond contributing to the development of our homeland—we also aim to transform consumer habits and perceptions of handcrafted products. In daily life, few people choose artisan handbags for work or events; most only encounter sedge bags during summer holidays or at seaside resorts, often in simple designs made from a single material.

That is why I decided to blend various natural fibers with touches of complementary materials such as leather straps and fabric inserts—enhancing not only the functionality and durability of the bags but also their sophistication and value as true fashion accessories.
